850 Pink-footed Geese roosted overnight, 109 Brent Geese, 3350 Shelduck, 290 Wigeon, 390 Pintail, 4 Red-breasted Merganser, 2 Great Egret, 57 Little Egret, 65 Snipe, 960 Curlew, 1300 Redshank, 180 Skylark over high tide - Riverbank Road, Heswall.
1 Yellow-browed Warbler near duck pond, hesrd but not seen - Leasowe Lighthouse.
17+ (could have been 25) Marsh Harrier coming in to roost this evening - Old Baths, Parkgate.
37 Great Egret (26 in trees around the mere, 11 on the marsh), 1 Curlew Sandpiper and 1+ Cattle Egret at BMW - Burton Mere Wetlands/Burton Marsh.

Visible migration overhead included:
110 Chaffinch, 60 Skylark, 15 Siskin, 2 Brambling, 11 Redwing and 1 Redpoll - Leasowe Lighthouse.
2000+ Chaffinch, 25 Brambling, 150 Siskin, 26 Rook, 20 Jackdaw and 130 Woodpigeon along sea-front - Hoylake.

1 Yellow-browed Warbler - Leasowe Gunsite.
11 Spotted Redshank - Connah's Quay Reserve.
5 Cattle Egret and 11 Great Egret - Burton Mere Wetlands.
15+ Marsh Harrier, 1 grey male Hen Harrier, 1 Merlin, 1 Green Sandpiper and 1 Kingfisher late afternoon - Old Baths, Parkgate.

1 Yellow-browed Warbler in scrub near Roman Road - Meols.
1 Long-billed Dowitcher and 5 Cattle Egret - Burton Mere Wetlands.
1 Slavonian Grebe still on Cop Hole (accessed from roundabout immediately north-east of Flint Bridge on A548), also 4 Great Egret, 1 Peregrine and 1 Merlin - Burton Marsh.

2 Arctic Tern - Hilbre.

Oct 20
1,200 Redwing and 300 Starling this morning between 8.30 and 9.30am flying south-east over Dawpool Nature Reserve, Thurstaston.
60 Siskin moving east - Leasowe Lighthouse.
1 Ring Ouzel, 1,055 Redwing, 35 Fieldfare, 12 Siskin and lots of Starlings over flying south - Hilbre.
1 Cattle Egret, 1 Firecrest and 1 Spotted Redshank, 1 Slavonian Grebe reported but not confirmed - Burton Mere Wetlands.

Oct 19
Redwings and Fieldfares were flying over Thurstaston Visitor Centre/Caravan Park all day. Given the enormous numbers counted over Crosby Marine Lake heading south (i.e. straight towards Wirral) I think we can safely say daily totals at Thurstaston were at least 20,000 Redwing and 4,000 Fieldfare.
Late afternoon a walk through Dawpool Nature Reserve (Thurstaston) revealed "every Berry tree was alive with them . They where like locusts. Then a Sparrowhawk spooked them all, what a spectacular sight."
Thousands of Redwings and Fieldfares, and hundreds of finches. flying along North Wirral  and heading south between West Kirby and Neston this morning. At Thurstaston there were large movements of Thrushes coming from both Leasowe and West Kirby direction.
4080 Redwing, 1125 Fieldfare, 118 Jackdaw, 505 Chaffinch, 40 Linnet, 22 Greenfinch and 16 Siskin between 0800hrs and 9.15hrs, they were still flying through at the same rate until at least 1030hrs - Heswall Fields NT.
1,125 Redwing and 38 Fieldfare over heading south, up until 1130hrs, also 1 Black Redstart and 1 Garden Warbler - Hilbre.
350 Pink-footed Geese and several hundred Redwing on the ground (as well as flying over) around mid-day in fields along Wirral Way - Thurstaston.
1 Curlew Sandpiper - Burton Mere Wetlands.

10 Goosander - West Kirby Marine Lake.
4 Cattle Egret, 1 Yellow-browed Warbler and 1 Firecrest - Burton Mere Wetlands.
1 Slavonian Grebe on Cop Hole (accessed from roundabout immediately north-east of Flint Bridge on A548) - Burton Marsh.
1 Kingfisher and 1 Little Grebe on groyne - Meols Common.
6 Swallow flew over marsh from Burton Point.

Oct 17
11 Goosander - West Kirby Marine Lake.
5 Whooper Swan (5 ad, 3 juv) and 4 Cattle Egret - Burton Mere Wetlands.
1 Slavonian Grebe and 5 Little Grebe on Cop Hole (accessed from roundabout immediately north-east of Flint Bridge on A548) - Burton Marsh.
1 Black Redstart by Wallasey Lifeguards.

Oct 16
1 Slavonian Grebe showing well on Cop Hole, 2 Whooper Swan, 2 Great Egret and 2 Ruddy Shelduck on the marsh - Burton Marsh.
4 Cattle Egret and 3 Whooper Swan  - Burton Mere Wetlands.
6 Red-throated Diver (looked like all juveniles flying into the estuary), 2 Guillemot, 17 Skylark, 9 Rock Ppit and 61 Brent Goose - Hilbre.

1 Yellow-browed Warbler in private garden - Wallasey.
1 Curlew Sandpiper and  4 Cattle Egret - Burton Mere Wetlands.
1 probable Slavonian Grebe seen in fading light on Cop Hole, also 2 Whooper Swan on Marsh with Mute Swans - Burton Marsh.

1 Slavonian Grebe briefly before flying south - Burton Mere Wetlands.

Oct 13
1 Merlin, 7 Great Egret, 2 Ruff and 42 Shoveler - Parkgate.
1 Cetti's Warbler caught and ringed, a first for Hilbre, also 1 Marsh Harrier over.
2,500 Common Scoter on flat calm sea this morning - Meols.
1 Corn Bunting in hedge this morning but flew and not relocated - Carr Lane, Hoylake Langfields.
1 Yellow-browed Warbler, 4 Cattle Egret and 1 Red Kite - Burton Mere Wetlands.

3 Whooper Swan flew south, 1 Yellow-browed Warbler and 3 Cattle Egret - Burton Mere Wetlands.

Oct 11
1 Yellow-browed Warbler, 1 Firecrest and 3 Cattle Egret - Burton Mere Wetlands.
3 Greenshank on new Old Baths Flash, also 1 Great Egret  and 1 Marsh Harrier - Parkgate.
1 Merlin over Marine Lake, 2 Mediterranean Gull on the shore and 140 Brent Geese on edge of saltmarsh on ebbing tide - West Kirby.

1 Curlew Sandpiper, 1 Greenshank, 1 Avocet and 1 Cattle Egret, also 500+ Teal - Burton Mere Wetlands.
4 Marsh Harrier, 8 Greenshank and 1 Ruff - Old Baths, Parkgate.

Oct 9
1 Firecrest and 1 Yellow-browed Warbler - Hilbre.
1 Yellow-browed Warbler, 1 Firecrest, 1 Curlew Sandpiper, 1 Goosander and 3 Redwing over - Burton Mere Wetlands.
134 Little Egret flew from roost early morning, also some visible migration: 48 Skylark, 65 Meadow Pipit, 230 Chaffinch, 36 Greenfinch, 70 Goldfinch, 102 Linnet, 14 Reed Bunting - Heswall Fields.
7070 Shelduck and 535 Pintail (high numbers due to early morning wildfowling activity on Heswall Marsh) - Dawpool Bank.

Oct 8
1 Slavonian Grebe on bridge pool, 1 (or 2?) Firecrest, 1 Merlin, 1 Greenshank and 1 Cattle Egret - Burton Mere Wetlands.
2 Snow Bunting at 10am and flew towards Hilbre - Red Rocks.
1 Yellow-browed Warbler caught and ringed in private garden - Bidston Hill.

Oct 7
6 Goosander and 6 Red-breasted Merganser, at least 178 Turnstone on lake wall - West Kirby Marine Lake.
1 Gadwall flew west (rare here!), 2 Golden Plover, 1 Red-throated Diver, 1000+ Common Scoter and 5 Gannet, 3 Mediterranean Gull on beach at high tide and 5+ Sandwich Tern - Hoylake.

Oct 6
6 Goosander and 6 Red-breasted Merganser - West Kirby Marine Lake.
2 Curlew Sandpiper and 1 Little Stint on main scrape - Burton Mere Wetlands.
1 Swallow, 6 Skylark moving west, 2 Golden Plover and 42 Brent Geese - Hilbre.

4 Leach's Petrel flew west but distant before high tide, also 1 Grey Phalarope swimming in the surf, 1 Great Skua, 1 Arctic Skua, 1 Eider, 8 Kittiwake in one flock, 6 Guillemot, 1 Manx Shearwater and 8 Sandwich Tern - Wallasey Shore.

Sep 23
2 Goosander on lake, 4 Rock Pipit north end, 1 Kingfisher by the Old Baths and 1 Peregrine over - West Kirby Marine Lake.
1 Hen Harrier (ringtail) flew towards Burton Point, 8 Curlew Sandpiper, 3 Little Stint, 4 Ruddy Shelduck, 1 Garganey (juv) and 1 Cattle Egret - Burton Mere Wetlands.

3 Goosander (2 on Marine Lake and 1 on sea), 4 Mediterranean Gull in gull roost - West Kirby.
3 Little Stint, 8 Curlew Sandpiper and 1 Cattle Egret - Burton Mere Wetlands.
10 Spoonbill, 12 Greenshank and 4 Little Grebe on Boathouse Flash - Parkgate.

700+ Pink-footed Geese, 9 Spoonbill, 2 Little Grebe and 5 Shoveler - Parkgate.
1 probable American Golden Plover, heard only - Hilbre.

7 Curlew Sandpiper, 2 Green Sandpiper, 6 Ruff, 1 Avocet, 2 Marsh Harrier, 1 Water Rail and 500+ Pink-footed Geese - Burton Mere Wetlands.

1 Curlew Sandpiper - Hilbre.
11 Curlew Sandpiper (Pectoral Sandpiper reported earlier remains unconfirmed and was probably a female Ruff), 12 Ruff, 1 Avocet, 1 Cattle Egret, 2 Marsh Harrier and 1 Kingfisher, 1,200 Pinkfooted Geese on wet grassland - Burton Mere Wetlands.
9 Spoonbill and 16 Greenshank - Parkgate.

Several reports of small numbers of Pink-footed Geese flying in.

32 Curlew Sandpiper (20 on centenary pool and 12 on main scrape), 4 Spotted Redshank and 1 Cattle Egret - Burton Mere Wetlands.
1 Merlin off Old Baths and 1 Hobby off Old Quay pub, 1 Spotted Redshank, 10 Greenshank, 3 Ringed Plover, 1 Common Sandpiper and 11 Dunlin on new Old Baths Flash - Parkgate.

First geese of the autumn arrived with 3 Pink-foot at Heswall arriving high from the east and very noisy, 6 Pink-foot on wet grassland at Burton Mere Wetlands and 4 Brent on the sea between Little Eye and West Kirby at high tide.
12 Spoonbill on Boathouse Flash, 8 Greenshank and 6 Ringed Plover on newly flooded Old Baths Flash - Parkgate.
4 Ruddy Shelduck and 16 Curlew Sandpiper - Burton Mere Wetlands.

1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Peregrine, 20 Swallow, 6 House Martin, 4 Wheatear, 8 Chiffchaff, 1 Willow Warbler, 20 Sandwich Tern and 220 Linnet before tide, 1 Arctic Skua, 2 Curlew Sandpiper, 1 Great Northern Diver, 1 Razorbill and 1 Guillemot over high tide - Hilbre.

2 Green Sandpiper, 2 Common Sandpiper, 3 Grey Wagtail and 1 Kingfisher on Donkey Stand Flash, 12 Spoonbill. 70 Wigeon, 6 Pintail and 3 Greenshank on Boathouse Flash, 100+ Swallows moving SW - Parkgate.
30 Curlew Sandpiper - Burton Mere Wetlands.
1 Curlew Sandpiper, 1 Greenshank and 1 Yellow-legged Gull (ad) - Hoylake.

Sep 9
2 Curlew Sandpiper out from Lifeboat Station at high tide - Hoylake.
1 Red Kite over Lower Heswall then low over fields by Burton Mere Wetlands.
13 Curlew Sandpiper, 6 Spoonbill and 1 Pied Flycatcher - Burton Mere Wetlands.
13 Spoonbill , 1 Spotted Redshank (juv) and 5 Water Rail - Parkgate.
NOTE: Spoonbills counted at same time so total of 19, another record!
8 Stonechat (two families) - Burton Point.

Sep 8
16 Greenshank on Bevyl Road Flash, 13 Spoonbill and 7 Greenshank on Boathouse Flash, 1 Curlew Sandpiper, 1 Green Sandpiper, 3 Ruff and 2 Water Rail on Donkey Stand Flash - Parkgate.
9 Curlew Sandpiper - Burton Mere Wetlands.
3 Curlew Sandpiper on mud off south end, 1 Peregrine over - West Kirby Marine Lake.
At least 6 Wheatear along the coast, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Greenshank and 1 Common Sandpiper on the groyne and a good sprinkling of warblers - Leasowe Lighthouse.

1 Pintail (first of autumn here), 355 Grey Plover, 3 juv Curlew Sandpipers, 3 Bar-tailed Godwits, 1 Greenshank, 4000 Redshank on rising tide - Heswall/Thurstaston Shore.
4 Spoonbill and 12 Curlew Sandpiper, 1 Osprey over early afternoon - Burton Mere Wetlands.
12 Spoonbill, 2 juv Spotted Redshank and 30 Wigeon on Boathouse Flash, 1 Little Stint and 1 Curlew Sandpiper on Donkey Stand Flash and 2 Curlew Sandpiper on Bevyl Road Flash - Parkgate.
NOTE: 4 Spoonbills at BMW and 12 at Parkgate were counted at the same time so a record total of 16 (although that number has probably been present for several days).
9 Curlew Sandpiper (three on mud south of lake wall and six flew up river with small wader flocks), 2 Mediterranean Gull and 1 Little Gull (ad) - West Kirby Marine Lake/Shore.
