The Black-tailed Godwits we've been seeing over the past few days are nearly all in breeding plumage so it seems likely that many are birds returning from Iceland rather than non-breeders over-summering. These are VERY early returning from Iceland but we have been told they have had a poor breeding season in the north of the country, normally we wouldn't expect them back until late July.

Confirmed breeding of Mediterranean Gulls at Burton Mere Wetlands with a pair with two chicks, also 1 Spoonbill circling over-head, 2 Great White Egret, 1 Green Sandpiper, 4 Great Crested Grebe and 1 juv Cuckoo.
1 Marsh Harrier, 3 Grasshopper Warbler (reeling), 2 Stonechat, 2 Raven and 2 Spoonbill - Denhall Lane/Burton Point.
1 Common Snadpiper and 8 Whimbrel - Hilbre.
