804 Great Crested Grebe between Red Rocks and Leasowe Lighthouse on a flat calm sea at high tide.
18,000 Knot - Thurstaston Shore as tide came in.
17 Purple Sandpiper - New Brighton Marine Lake.
1 Hen Harrier (male) past Donkey Stand Flash at 4.15pm and an hour later past the Old Baths - Parkgate Marsh.
1 Stonechat - Neston Old Quay.
600 Sanderling - Hilbre.

Feb 26
50+ Waxwing in tree - Victoria Drive, West Kirby, early afternoon.
21 Purple Sandpiper - New Brighton Marine Lake.
3 Short-eared Owl and 3 Hen Harrier (2 male) off Old Baths, 1 Mediterranean Gull and 1 Short-eared Owl at donkey Stand flash - Parkgate Marsh.
1 Hen Harrier (ringtail) and 2 Merlin - Denhall Quay.

Feb 25
350 Black-tailed godwit and 550 Bar-tailed Godwit - Heswall Shore as tide came in.
8,000 Dunlin - West Kirby Shore at high tide.
1 Merlin which flushed 375 Golden Plover - Inner Marsh Farm hide.
150 Brent Geese (incl 1 dark-bellied), 71 Great Crested Grebe, 26 Common Scoter, 4 Red-throated Diver and 7 Purple Sandpiper - Hilbre.
3 Short-eared Owl and 1 Hen Harrier (sub-ad male) - Parkgate Marsh.

Feb 24
1 Firecrest in trees along River Birket by Cadbury's - Moreton.
Several reports of good numbers of Goldcrests across the area, must have been an influx.
140 Golden Plover, 220 Lapwing, 320 Black-tailed Godwit, 630 Bar-tailed Godwit, 450 Curlew, 350 Redshank, 1 Spotted Redshank, 750 Oystercatcher, 1 Peregrine and c20,000 Knot - Heswall Shore as tide came in.
22 Waxwing in tree along Oldfield Road near junction with Quarry Road -  Heswall.
54 Twite on Flint Castle, this morning.
14 Purple Sandpiper and 180 Turnstone - New Brighton Marine Lake.
1 Water Pipit - Neston Sewage Works.
1 Merlin and 2 Hen Harrier (ringtail and male) - Burton Marsh.
1 Mediterranean Gull - Wallasey Shore.

Feb 23
150 Pintail, 160 Teal, 139 Golden Plover, 1 summer plumage Grey Plover, 490 Curlew, 580 Bar-tailed Godwit, 75 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Peregrine, 2 Raven - Heswall Shore as tide came in.
20,000 Knot - Thurstaston Shore after high tide.
56 Pied Wagtail in paddaocks by Target Road, Heswall.
At least 40 Twite on marsh by Flint Castle.
1 Great White Egret and 1 Short-eared Owl - Burton Marsh.


Feb 22
43 Great Crested Grebe and 17 Common Scoter - Leasowe Lighthouse.
400 Black-tailed Godwit, 150 Bar-tailed Godwit and 8,000 Knot - Thurstaston Shore.
15 Waxwing - Seabank Road, Heswall, on ariel then flew to Riverbank Road a 5.30pm.
1 Great White Egret - Decca Pools, Burton Marsh (note path to Denhall Quay is closed).

Feb 21
1 Greenshank and 250 Grey Plover - Leasowe Lighthouse.
4 Hen Harrier (3 ringtail, 1 male) - Parkgate Marsh.

Feb 20
1 Greenshank (by groyne) and 22 Pied Wagtail (in horse paddocks) - Leasowe Lighthouse.
1 Hen Harrier (ringtail) - Parkgate Marsh.
10 Waxwing - Moreton, on Upton Road near Kingston Close junction.

Feb 19
15 Waxwing flew over Ashton Park heading towards Column Road at noon - West Kirby.
1 Water Pipit and 17 Redwing, a lot of Meadow Pipits moving along marsh - Neston Old Quay.
4 Spotted Redshank - Burton Mere Wetlands.
1 Barn Owl and 2+ Short-eared Owl early morning, 4 Short-eared Owl, 1 Barn Owl and 1 Hen Harrier (male) this evening - Parkgate Marsh, also 1 probable Bittern seen at dusk.

Feb 18
1 Greenshank by groyne - Leasowe Lighthouse.
1 Spotted Redshank, 1 Water Rail, 7 Golden Plover and 2,000+ Lapwing - Burton Mere Wetlands.
12,500 Knot - Thurstaston Shore.
3+ Short-eared Owl, 1 Barn Owl and 1 Great White Egret  - Parkgate Marsh this evening.

Feb 17
1 Great White Egret, 1 Hen Harrier (ringtail), 1 Merlin, 1 Short-eared Owl and 1 Barn Owl - Parkgate Marsh.
10,000 Knot - Thurstaston Shore.
1 Water Rail showing well, 6 Siskin and 1 Brambling - Burton Mere Wetlands.
1 Water Pipit (by sewage farm), 1 Twite and 1 Cetti's Warbler (heard singing) - Neston Old Quay.

Feb 16
1 Kingfisher on River Birket, 1 Greenshank by groyne, 1 Peregrine on sand bank - Leasowe Lighthouse.
1 Avocet - Burton Mere Wetlands.
1 Water Pipit - Neston Old Quay.
14+ Purple Sandpiper - New Brighton Marine Lake.
1 Jack Snipe, 2 Short-eared Owl, 3 Hen Harrier (1 male and 2 ringtail), 2 Merlin  and 1 Barn Owl - Parkgate Marsh, one of the Harriers flushed a Jack Snipe which was then pursued inland by a Merlin!

Feb 15
Note: footpath between Denhall Quay and Decca Pools is currently closed whilst they are converting it into a cycle track. Likely to remain closed for at least two weeks.

1 Shag, 1,100 Dunlin, 650 Redshank, 68 Knot, 41 Turnstone and 17 Ringed Plover on groyne by Leasowe Lighthouse at High tide.
3 Mediterranean Gull, 1 (prob 2) Caspian Gull, 1,800 Black-headed Gull, 800 Common Gull, 20 Great Black-backed Gull, 200 Lesser Black-backed Gull and 14,500 Herring Gull - Hoylake Shore at high tide.
35 Twite on saltmarsh by Flint Castle.
250 Black-tailed Godwit and 200 Curlew in field next to Saughall Massie Road, Greasby.

Feb 12
12 Waxwing - junction of Lyndhurst Road and Thurstaston Road, Irby, at 1115am but mobile.
1 Greenshank, 2 Peregrine and 1 Merlin - Heswall Shore as tide came in.
12 Scaup, 27 Common Scoter and 19 Great Crested Grebe - Leasowe Lighthouse, before high tide.
49 Waxwing in tree opposite junction of Telegraph Road and Lightfoot Lane, Heswall at 4.40pm.
18 Purple Sandpiper, 210 Turnstone and 320 Redshank - New Brighton Marine lake.
70 Great Black-backed Gull, 280 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 800 Common Gull, 4,000 Black-headed Gull and 16,000 Herring Gull between Red Rocks and New Brighton at high tide, approx 70% at Hoylake and Meols and most of the rest off Wallasey and New Brighton.

16 Scaup, 1 Greenshank, 750 Dunlin, 500 Redshank, 15 Grey Plover and 200 Knot (waders all on the groyne) - Leasowe Lighthouse.
14 Waxwing - junction of Lyndhurst Road and ThurstastonRoad, Irby, this morning.
2 Red-throated Diver, 2 Mediterranean Gull and 132 Brent Geese - Hoylake Shore.
2 Brent Geese (light-bellied) and 1 Rock Pipit - Oakenholt Marsh.
900 Black-tailed Godwit, 380 Curlew, 900 Lapwing, 350 Dunlin, 660 Wigeon highlights from todays count at Warren Farm, Talacre, with birds spread right across the farm fields.
2 Great White egret, 1 grey male Hen Harrier closely followed by a Merlin - Parkgate Marsh.

Feb 9
20,000+ gulls on East Hoyle Bank as tide went out, estimated from Hilbre.
19 Waxwing - junction of Lyndhurst Road and ThurstastonRoad, Irby, this morning.
19 Purple Sandpiper and 200 Turnstone - New Brighton Marine Lake at high tide.
2 Caspian Gull (adult and 4th winter), 1 Mediterranean Gull (ad), 2,000 Knot, 3,000 Dunlin, 50 Great Black-backed Gull, 300 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 1,000 Common Gull, 7,000 Herring Gull and 8,000 Black-headed Gull - Hoylake Shore at high tide, another 7,000 gulls out towards hilbre, 35 Scaup on the sea.

48 Waxwing - Saughall Massie, at junction of Saughall Massie Road and Upton by-pass at 9am but only about 10 at 11am.
1 Hen Harrier (ringtail) flying north chased by a crow - Parkgate Marsh this morning, 2 ringtail Hen Harrier, 1 Great White Egret, 1 Short-eared Owl, 1 Merlin and 1 Barn Owl this afternoon.
c20,000 gulls, mostly Herring Gulls, along north Wirral after high tide.
c500 Curlew in fields at high tide, 450 Bar-tailed Godwit (after high tide, highest count here this winter), 80 Pink-footed Geese flew up from field , circled over shore then went inland again, c4,000 Knot one of which was taken by a Peregrine - Thurstaston Shore.
41 Common Scoter off shore, 1,500 Dunlin and 800 Redshank on groyne at high tide - Leasowe Lighthouse.
22 Black-tailed Godwit and c100 Meadow Pipit - Gilroy Nature Park, West Kirby.
8 Waxwing by entrance to Ridgwood Park, Fishers Lane, Pensby, at 2.15pm.
1 Hen Harrier (ringtail) and 1 Short-eared Owl - Denhall Quay this afternoon.
10 Waxwing - Rosslyn Drive, Moreton, this afternoon.

Feb 7
17,500 Herring Gull, 80 Great Black-backed Gull, 800 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 1,000 Black-headed Gull and 400 Common Gull - Meols Shore just after high tide, mostly roosting on East Hoyle Bank.
48 Waxwing - Saughall Massie, at junction of Saughall Massie Road and Upton by-pass, at 1pm, been present since at least mid-morning.
20+ Waxwing - Moreton.
450 Black-tailed Godwit on flooded fields, Talacre, Point of Ayr.

Feb 6
30+ Waxwing at junction of Lyndhurst Road and Thurstaston Road, Irby, this morning but becoming elusive, 10 flew towards Townshend Avenue where they were seen briefly.
c40 Waxwing by Roslin Road (off Thingwall Road), Irby, this afternoon, flew  off towards Seaview Lane.
20,000+ mixed gulls off Leasowe Lighthouse after high tide, probably mostly Herring Gull but too windy to ID!
1 Water Pipit, 11 Waxwing (flew over NW) and 950 Pink-footed Geese - Neston Old Quay.
10 Waxwing in tree opposite Lightfoot Lane on Telegraph Raod, Heswall, late afternoon.
2 Short-eared Owl and 1 Merlin - Denhall Quay.

40 Waxwing - Irby, along Irby Road halfway between village and Pensby School, close to junction with Townshend Avenue, this morning, no sign at 1pm but may still be in area.

15 Bewick's Swan flew west and into the estuary - Hoylake Shore.

4 Hen Harrier (3 grey males!! and 1 ringtail) - Burton Point at mid-day, birds were in the air together.
