Back to North Wirral Shore

Map of Wallasey and New Brighton (Scale: Approx 2.5 miles across)

Directions: Wallasey covers a large area which incorporates New Brighton, but for the purposes of this website, and as the area called Wallasey Village is nearby, the left hand area (west) of this map is called Wallasey Shore and the right hand area (east) is called New Brighton Shore.
Coming from the M53/Meols direction along the A554 (Harrison Drive); Wallasey Golf Course is on the left hand side, a sign on the left marks the road to Derby Pool restaurant (1) where there is parking by the shore. Turn left at the roundabout at the end of Harrison Drive, this brings you to Coastal Drive where there is parking. Down the slipway at the end is a beach (2) sometimes frequented by Snow buntings, to the north is a breakwater (3) where waders roost and the area next to the Lifeguard Station (4) is often used for seawatching.
There is free parking all the way along King's Parade to New Brighton, but beware that on a spring tide with strong wind there can be much sea spray coming over the wall. As you approach New Brighton a large grassy area on the left is the site of the old baths (5), and beyond that is the Marine Lake (6). Just before you reach the River Mersey you will see Perch Rock Fort and Lighthouse on the left, a street shelter next to the road here is often used by seawatchers during autumn gales.
There are toilets just to the west of the Marine Lake. Wallasey railway station is about half a mile from the lifeguard station, and New Brighton railway station just a third of a mile from the Marine Lake; both have good connections with the rest of North Wirral, Chester and Liverpool.
