LOCAL HISTORY COURSE ON HILBRE

A one-day course on simple methods of historical research is planned, to be repeated on 2 days in summer 2008. The courses will take place in the buildings, island and shore on Hilbre, over a mid-day low tide, on Saturday 28th June and Saturday 12th July. For details, please apply to The Treasurer on e-mail: thefriendsofhilbre@hotmail.com, or ring 0151 336 8643 between 2pm and 8pm on weekdays. Pre-booking essential.

Seal Watching Refresher/Training Course 2008
For insurance purposes, all participants on this course must be members of The Friends of Hilbre.

Dave Cavanagh, the Hilbre Ranger, will be running an informal, fun training session for volunteers on Sunday 9th March. You will learn about the seals in the Dee Estuary and how to use a telescope. Friends of Hilbre volunteers who help with Seal Watching Duty can then share this information with visitors to the islands, helping to enhance their appreciation and respect for the Atlantic Grey Seal colony.

We hope that each trainee will commit to one or more Seal Watching duties in 2008. Wear sensible clothing/footwear and bring a snack to eat. If you have any binoculars, please bring these along.

To enrol on the Seal Watching Refresher/Training Course you must be a member of The Friends of Hilbre over 18 years because of insurance.

Notes: We anticipate all members attending the course will volunteer for one day of their time in 2008
